The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) is inviting qualified professionals to apply for the position of Director: Investment Projects, a senior management role aimed at driving economic growth, investment expansion, and job creation in South Africa.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting businesses through incentive schemes that encourage expansion, competitiveness, and sustainable employment creation.

What the dtic Is Looking For

Applicants must possess an NQF Level 7 qualification in Economics, Commerce, or a related field recognised by SAQA. In addition, candidates need at least five years of middle or senior management experience in an economic environment within the public sector.

The department is searching for a professional with proven expertise in:

  • Investment promotion and investor facilitation
  • Incentive administration
  • Programme and project management
  • Stakeholder engagement with government and private sector partners
  • Research, reporting, and performance analysis
  • Financial oversight and budget management

Experience with CRM or MIS systems for investor tracking will serve as an added advantage.

Main Responsibilities

The Director: Investment Projects will play a strategic role in strengthening South Africa’s investment landscape. Core responsibilities include:

Stakeholder and Partnership Management

The appointed candidate will coordinate support with government entities, development finance institutions, industry associations, and private sector partners. Building sustainable relationships to improve investment uptake will be a major focus area.

Investment Marketing and Investor Support

The role includes leading investment marketing campaigns, managing investor engagements, and coordinating inward and outward investment missions.

Business Advisory Services

The successful applicant will provide technical guidance to businesses seeking access to incentive schemes while assisting companies with governance, compliance, and funding support.

Research and Strategic Analysis

The director will oversee performance analysis and contribute to research initiatives that help improve incentive programmes and ensure they remain effective and relevant.

Directorate Management

Additional duties include strategic planning, risk management, record keeping, and the management of financial and human resources within the directorate.
