Department of Basic Education Opens Jobs for 2026
The Department of Basic Education has announced new senior management vacancies aimed at strengthening South Africa’s education system and improving curriculum delivery across the country. Chief Director: Curriculum Implementation and Monitoring
One of the key vacancies advertised is for the position of Chief Director: Curriculum Implementation and Monitoring, carrying a salary package of R1 494 900 per annum. The role falls under the Curriculum Policy, Support and Monitoring Branch and is based in Pretoria.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading national curriculum implementation strategies and ensuring quality education delivery from ages 0–4 through Grade 12. The department is seeking an experienced professional with a relevant Bachelor’s degree at NQF Level 7 and at least five years of senior management experience in education planning and policy implementation.
According to the job description, the position focuses heavily on strengthening teacher capacity, improving learner performance in mathematics and languages, expanding inclusive education access, and ensuring effective implementation of the National Curriculum Statement and CAPS framework.
The role also involves collaboration with national and international education bodies, implementation of school-based assessment strategies, and supporting the National Development Plan goals toward Schooling 2030.
Director: Teacher Development and Implementation
The department is also recruiting for the position of Director: Teacher Development and Implementation with an annual salary of R1 266 714. The post is situated within the Teachers, Education Human Resources and Institutional Development Branch.
Applicants are expected to hold a relevant Bachelor’s degree and possess at least five years of middle or senior management experience within the education sector. Extensive knowledge of teacher development programmes, ICT integration in education, and institutional performance management is considered essential for the role.
The successful candidate will coordinate and monitor teacher development programmes across provinces while supporting innovative digital learning initiatives. Responsibilities include developing professional development frameworks, evaluating teacher support programmes, promoting ICT-based learning solutions, and compiling analytical reports to guide education sector improvements.
