National Department of Health Opens 2026 Job and Internship Opportunities Across South Africa

The National Department of Health (NDoH) has announced several exciting employment and internship opportunities for 2026, offering career paths for experienced professionals as well as unemployed graduates seeking workplace experience in the public sector.

Senior Management Vacancy: Director – Employment Relations

The Department is recruiting a Director: Employment Relations on a one-year contract based in the Northern Cape. The position offers an attractive all-inclusive salary package of over R1.2 million per annum.

Applicants must possess:

  • A Grade 12 certificate
  • An NQF Level 7 qualification in Labour Relations or Labour Law
  • At least five years of management experience in labour relations

The successful candidate will oversee grievance procedures, disciplinary processes, labour dispute resolution, investigations, and labour relations policy implementation within the Department.

The role also requires strong leadership, financial management knowledge, and experience handling workplace misconduct, fraud, and corruption-related matters.

Deputy Director Position Also Available

The Department is also hiring a Deputy Director: Employment Relations in the Northern Cape on a one-year contract.

This middle-management opportunity offers a salary package exceeding R900,000 annually and is ideal for candidates with:

  • A Labour Relations or Labour Law qualification
  • Experience in disciplinary hearings, arbitration, and dispute resolution
  • Knowledge of labour legislation and public service procedures

The successful applicant will coordinate grievance processes, manage misconduct investigations, represent the Department during conciliations and arbitration proceedings, and provide labour relations support across the organisation.

Graduate Internship Programme 2026–2028

In addition to management positions, the Department has launched its 24-month Graduate Internship Programme, aimed at unemployed graduates who have not previously participated in an internship programme.

Interns will receive a monthly stipend of R8,174.78 and gain valuable public service experience in Pretoria-based offices.
