The department has officially announced a vacancy for the position of Project Coordinator: Environmental Programmes based in Pretoria.

The DFFE is seeking qualified and motivated individuals who can coordinate environmental projects, oversee field operations, and ensure successful implementation of environmental programme targets.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • A National Diploma (NQF Level 6) or higher qualification in Natural Sciences, Environmental Management, or a related field recognized by SAQA.
  • At least two years of experience as a Project Coordinator within the Natural Resources Management (NRM) environment.

Candidates should also demonstrate knowledge and experience in:

  • Project management
  • Alien vegetation control
  • Financial and general administration
  • Occupational health and safety compliance
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Report writing and communication

The department is looking for candidates who can work under pressure, supervise field workers effectively, and operate with minimal supervision.

Main Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for supporting and implementing environmental programme projects through several key functions.

Project Planning and Coordination

The appointed coordinator will assist with operational planning, project target setting, and development of training plans. Stakeholder engagement and maintaining project advisory committees will also form part of the role.

Project Implementation

The role includes overseeing the recruitment of EPWP field workers, ensuring work opportunities are created, and monitoring alien vegetation clearing activities in the field.

Monitoring and Reporting

Candidates will conduct site inspections, complete operational assessment reports, monitor project cash flow, and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards.

Project Closure Activities

The Project Coordinator will also handle close-out reports, site inspections, and completion certification processes once projects are finalized.
