GTAC Opens New Career Opportunities for 2026

The Government Technical Advisory Centre (GTAC) has announced exciting employment opportunities for qualified South Africans seeking to build careers within the public sector. The latest vacancies, based in Pretoria, are aimed at professionals with experience in municipal finance management and administrative support.

GTAC, which operates under the National Treasury, continues to strengthen local government financial systems through strategic support programmes designed to improve municipal performance and governance.

Deputy Director: Municipal Support Vacancy

One of the key positions currently open is the role of Deputy Director: Municipal Support under reference number G06/2026. The fixed-term contract will run until 30 June 2027.

The successful candidate will receive an all-inclusive salary package ranging from R1.1 million to R1.29 million per annum.

Requirements for the Position

Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in one of the following areas:

  • Local Government Finance
  • Municipal Financial Management
  • Related financial disciplines

Candidates should also have between six and eight years of relevant experience, including at least two years at management level. Previous public sector experience will be considered an advantage.

Additional expertise in project management, technical support, research, and learning material development may improve an applicant’s chances.

Main Responsibilities

The appointed Deputy Director will play an important role in supporting the Municipal Finance Improvement Programme (MFIP). Duties include:

  • Managing municipal financial support projects
  • Coordinating technical advisors
  • Monitoring project budgets and performance
  • Supporting compliance with financial legislation
  • Facilitating stakeholder engagement
  • Assisting with municipal finance capacity-building initiatives

The role also requires strong knowledge of legislation such as the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), Municipal Systems Act, and Municipal Structures Act.

Team Assistant Position Also Available

GTAC is also recruiting for a Team Assistant: Municipal Finance Improvement Programme under reference number G07/2026.

This fixed-term contract position offers a salary between R338 106 and R398 277 per year, plus benefits.

Qualifications and Experience Needed

Applicants must have a three-year National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in:

  • Secretarial Studies
  • Office Administration
  • Or a related field

Candidates should have at least two to three years of administrative support experience. Public service experience will be an added advantage.

Duties of the Team Assistant

The selected candidate will provide administrative and secretarial support to the programme team. Responsibilities include:

  • Managing diaries and meeting schedules
  • Preparing meeting documents and minutes
  • Handling travel arrangements
  • Managing filing systems
  • Coordinating communication and correspondence
  • Supporting project teams with administrative tasks

The role requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced government environment.
