About the Office of the Legal Services Ombud
The Office of the Legal Services Ombud is responsible for addressing complaints related to legal practitioners and ensuring ethical conduct within the legal profession. The institution plays a crucial role in promoting transparency, accountability, and public confidence in legal services across South Africa.
The successful candidate will lead the organisation and oversee its strategic direction, operational performance, investigations, stakeholder engagement, governance, and financial management.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must possess:
- A Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in Public Administration, Political Science, Social Science, or a related field.
- Postgraduate qualifications and an LLB degree will be advantageous.
- At least five years of Senior Management experience within a legal practice environment.
- A Nyukela Certificate (Certificate for Entry into the Senior Management Service) before appointment.
Candidates should also demonstrate extensive knowledge of:
- Financial management and public sector governance
- Policy and strategy development
- Investigation and litigation processes
- Legal Practice Act and legal profession ethics
- Contract law and statutory interpretation
- Public Service Act and Regulations
- POPIA, PAIA, and PAJA legislation
Key Responsibilities
The appointed CEO will be responsible for:
- Leading and monitoring investigations into complaints handled by the OLSO.
- Developing and implementing long-term and short-term organisational strategies.
- Managing stakeholder relations and public outreach programmes.
- Driving organisational performance and strategic objectives.
- Overseeing risk management, anti-corruption initiatives, and integrity programmes.
- Ensuring efficient ICT systems and public service delivery.
- Managing financial governance, budgeting, and reporting processes.
- Providing leadership in human resources, supply chain management, and facilities administration.
