Department of Small Business Development (DSBD) vacancies

The Department of Small Business Development (DSBD) has announced new senior management vacancies aimed at strengthening South Africa’s small business and informal economy sectors. The department is inviting qualified professionals to apply for two director-level positions based in Pretoria, with applications closing on 12 June 2026.

These opportunities form part of the department’s ongoing commitment to promoting entrepreneurship, economic inclusion, and sustainable enterprise development across the country.

Director: Value Chain Support

One of the advertised vacancies is for the position of Director: Value Chain Support. The successful candidate will play a strategic leadership role in advancing value chain development initiatives that support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as well as co-operatives.

The role focuses on improving market access, strengthening competitiveness, and integrating small enterprises into local and international value chains. The appointed director will also be responsible for building partnerships with government entities, municipalities, development finance institutions, and private sector stakeholders.

Candidates applying for this role must possess an NQF Level 7 qualification in fields such as Economics, Entrepreneurship, Development Studies, or Business Management. A minimum of five years’ experience at middle or senior management level within a value chain support environment is also required.

The position offers an annual salary package of R1 266 714.

Director: Informal & Micro Business Development

The DSBD is also recruiting a Director: Informal & Micro Business Development to lead interventions supporting informal traders and micro enterprises.

This role will focus on policy development, programme implementation, business formalisation initiatives, and economic inclusion strategies. The selected candidate will oversee partnerships with municipalities, provincial departments, state-owned enterprises, and the private sector to strengthen support systems for informal businesses.

Applicants must hold an undergraduate qualification in areas such as Business Administration, Commerce, Development Finance, Entrepreneurship, or Development Studies. At least five years of senior management experience within the informal business support environment is required.

The successful candidate will earn an annual salary of R1 266 714.
