Office of the Chief Justice Announces New Employment Opportunities

The Office of the Chief Justice (OCJ) has opened applications for two employment opportunities within its judicial administration structures in the Eastern Cape and Northern Cape provinces. The vacancies offer career opportunities for individuals with legal, administrative, and language interpretation expertise who are looking to contribute to the South African justice system.

Principal Court Interpreter Vacancy in Mthatha

The Eastern Cape Division of the High Court in Mthatha is seeking a qualified Principal Court Interpreter. The position is offered at salary level 8, with an annual remuneration package ranging from R413,001 to R486,501.

Applicants must possess either a National Diploma in Legal Interpreting or an equivalent qualification at NQF Level 6 recognized by SAQA. Candidates should also have at least two years of experience as a Court Interpreter. Alternatively, individuals with a Grade 12 certificate and ten years of practical court interpreting experience may also be considered.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing interpretation services in complex and high-profile court matters, supervising interpreters, translating legal documents, managing interpreter schedules, and overseeing the procurement of foreign language interpreters when required.

Language proficiency in English, isiXhosa, and either isiZulu or Sesotho is essential. Supervisory experience and strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills will be advantageous.

Administration Clerk: Legal Position Available in Kimberley

The Northern Cape Division of the High Court in Kimberley is recruiting for an Administration Clerk: Legal. The post is offered at salary level 5, with annual remuneration ranging between R237,453 and R279,708.

The minimum requirement is a Grade 12 qualification, while possession of an LLB degree will serve as a distinct advantage. No prior work experience is required, making this an excellent entry-level opportunity for recent school leavers and aspiring legal professionals.

Key responsibilities include conducting legal research, assisting with court performance reporting, supporting case flow management processes, compiling statistical reports, and providing administrative support to court management structures.

Candidates should demonstrate strong communication abilities, computer literacy, analytical thinking, report-writing skills, and an understanding of confidentiality within government institutions.
